Murci wants to take you back where music really meant something. To the feeling of tearing the heat wrap off the record sleeve, placing the wax in your hand to the table and gingerly lowering the needle to the hiss and pop of anticipation. You clock out for the eve on a mid-week shift, head down to the corner discotheque! “I’ve been waiting to dance at the club all day,” states the lyric paired with a 120 bpm stomp on the over-head monitors. This is Murci.
Created in 2015 by the collective mind and heart of music producer Curt Barlage and vocalist Pablo Murcia, the duo known as Murci carefully nurtured it’s glamour-era R&B, sex- beat influenced sound in the dark, smoke filled warehouse studios of downtown Los Angeles. Classic is brought to the modern day in the methodology. Live instruments and an array of old and new synthesizers partake in the orgy of melodies in the music of Murci. Original pop, no auto-tune in sight. “When the question of description is posed,” states Pablo Murcia, “ We want you to imagine a fantasy world in which Prince, Michael Jackson, Rick James and George Micheal might have hung up their differences and somehow met on a chemical-fueled summer eve behind the mixing board.” …“At least, that’s how we’ve imagined it.” adds Curt Barlage. “There’s this element of classic club cuts as well. Pulled from crates of early 90’s Manchester or Chicago in ’85…it’s essentially made for the dance floor and your headphones. However you choose to escape.”
Hearts Gone Cold, is the debut full length album by Murci slated for release in winter 2018.
